Welcome to Ask Whole9 Canada, where Summer Innanen and Sarah Ramsden answer all of your health and nutrition questions. In this week’s episode, Summer and Sarah talk about how many meals per day you should be eating.
There are so many conflicting recommendations on the number of meals you should eat in a day. Some people recommend grazing, others suggest multiple small meals a day, whereas other recommendations will tell you that fewer larger meals are best. How do you know what’s right for you?
In this episode of S&STV, we talk about how to determine the best number of meals for your unique situation.

Thank you for touching on the athlete side of eating patterns!! I hope to see another segment on that as that is my biggest challenge. I’ve been conflicted by what I read on Whole30 (3 meals), and what my trainer says (every 2-3 hours). I CAN do 3 meals/day, and my need to snack is diminished now (in my second Whole30), and that’s a good thing. My snacks are now healthy options (“Food is fuel”) rather than cravings and/or tons of sugar, so that has been a huge improvement for me. However, with 3 meals/day, I have been finding it pretty much impossible to meet the protein requirements for my training program, and if I’m training for an event or training hard, I have found that sometimes, I totally miss the mark on the nutrition I need (mostly timing when I need it). This leads to struggles in my training (or worse, on race day). I’m also a crazy early bird, so breakfast is a 4-4:30, and that makes traditional lunch a long way off. Right now, its 4:30 am breakfast, 12 lunch, and 7:30 dinner. I think I’m going to break it down a bit, and aim for more balance throughout the day, smaller meals, spread a little more frequently, but not grazing!! :) .
Oh, I have three meals per day :)
I have 2 big meals a day and I eat 2 meals in the morning and at night
