I an intrigued by this story and this way of eating, but nervous about doing anything that would hurt my 8 month old. Can I nurse while following this lifestyle? And, can you have any sort of coffee or tea? I can't find that information on the site. Sounds like a wonderful way to eat.

I am on Day 3 of Whole30. Today I had the urge to snack, even though I knew I wasn't hungry....trying to fight these demons. I did snack on some macadamia nuts, and nibbled on some butternut squash and parsnips that I was preparing for dinner. I will eat a smaller portion at dinner, but I am still SO mad at myself for sucumming to the temptation.

Well done, Mark! The mass gain is a tricky animal - and, in our experience, usually not sustainable anyway. Slow and steady wins that race, and with a 40# increase in your DL, you've certainly picked up some muscle and some strength. Thanks for posting your results!

Olivia - Apple slices sound great, baked or raw. If you carried them raw, you might want to squeeze some lemon juice on them to keep them from browning.

Kara - You can't get the full experience of a Whole30 without meat, but you can make some improvements by eliminating processed foods. Dallas and Melissa are presenting Paleo Nutrition for Vegetarians as part of the upcoming Paleo Summit - http://whole9life.com/2012/02/paleo-summit/ - that is sure to offer useful guidelines.

Thank you for this post. This is exactly what I experienced with the new years Whole30. I lasted 2 weeks into it before basically cracking under the pressure I put on myself. (Admittedly I was too embarrassed to seek help on this site). I haven't been Whole30 strict since breaking at the 2 weeks but I certainly have been more mindful of what I'm eating and trying to gauge how different foods affect me. I still eat junk, but I'm more aware of how I feel afterwards and I'm becoming cleaner. This post reiterates those points and confirmed my feelings that something was off. I am in planning stage of trying another whole30. This time it is planning more efficiently but obsessing less on it. Thanks again!

Wow, Melissa. Thank you so much for being brave and posting this. Regardless of what flack (if any) you receive, honesty is always admired. You and I have a lot more in common than I thought at first. Maybe that is why I have always felt close to you, even though I don't know you that well. Thank you for putting this out there. And, ROCK ON for being clean for 12 years! That takes guts.
