Easy for you to say

April 28, 2009

As you know, I've been talking about diet an awful lot lately. I'm posting my thoughts here, responding to emails and doing some nutritional coaching for a few folks. I'm in danger of becoming the "Eat More Girl", I'm afraid, as it seems like that's what I start 90% of my conversations with. But I honestly wouldn't be giving out that advice if the Adidas Sambas didn't fit.People are responding positively, especially when they take my advice and it works. But I'm also getting a little bit of … [Read more...]

Competitive Eating

March 31, 2009

The emails and comments I've received in response to my CrossFit Journal article have brought up a lot of good thoughts, and questions. They have made me realize that there is so much more to discuss. Over the next week or two, I'm going to touch on a few of the things you've brought up, regarding CrossFit, diet and food. The first idea for discussion came from an email I received from Jeanette, in New Brunswick, Canada. She wrote, in part:"I have a very low tolerance for Competitive Dieters: … [Read more...]

Eat.

This gorgeous piece of art was Dallas' birthday gift to me. It is the only thing hanging on a huge brick wall in my office, and I get to look at it all day, every day. I'm pretty good at following directions, and this little piece of communication from him to me is as clear and concise as it gets.My "Zone Gone Bad" article was published in the CrossFit Journal today. In the article, I cop to some pretty serious confessions about me and food. To be honest, I can't believe that no one is … [Read more...]

Science is hot

February 4, 2009

NOTE: This post is now front page news on Robb Wolf's web site. I have died and gone to Science-y heaven. The fourth member of our group this weekend was Mathieu Lalonde, from Cambridge, MA. In Matt's own words, "I have no background in nutrition and exercise. I'm a chemist with a lifelong interest in nutrition and human performance. My background allows me to understand the nutrition and exercise literature that I delve into as a hobby. I obtained my bachelor's degree in science with a … [Read more...]

Burpees vs. Cookies – nobody wins

January 9, 2009

Right now, I am supporting my friend Jenn in a "30 Day, No Grains, No Sugar" challenge. In fact, there have recently been a ton of 30 day diet challenges posted - on the CrossFit Message Boards, on Facebook, within individual CrossFit affiliates. The “No Sugar Challenge”, “Paleo Challenge”, “Zone challenge”… take your pick, because they are all up for the joining. The idea is to shock your dietary habits into behaving – giving the cold-turkey finger to food and drink that has a detrimental … [Read more...]
