The Butter Manifesto

In the case of butter, we think Grok is (mostly) irrelevant. What we’re actually more concerned with is whether a particular food choice makes us more healthy or less healthy. And while we’re not encouraging everyone to eat more butter, we do consider it a bit of an outlier in the dairy category, which is why we’re exploring the subject here. [...]

Whole9 Presents: Nutrition in 60 Seconds

While many people live and breathe the idea of Eating Good Food, they’re not always so good at talking about it. In fact, when asked, “What’s this diet you’re on?”, most people approach their response entirely the wrong way. [...]

The Legume Manifesto

If you’ve read our articles or heard us speak, you know we don’t base our nutritional recommendations primarily on what Paleolithic man may or may not have eaten.  We care about whether the foods we’re eating here today are making us more healthy or less healthy. The Grain Manifesto

We’re continuing our “manifesto” series (refer back to dairy and peanuts for our earlier offerings) with the one topic most likely to spur controversy – grains. The Peanut Manifesto

Our clients don’t typically balk at the removal of the actual peanuts from their diets – there are plenty of other nuts they can consume for healthy fats. The trouble comes when we take away their peanut butter. Long promoted as full of “good” fat and high in protein, peanut butter has probably been a staple in your diet since you were a kid, and unfortunately, PB has few comparable substitutes (as those of you who have tried almond butter already know). [...]

The Dairy Manifesto

We get a lot of questions about our nutritional recommendations, and Melissa has written extensively on diet and nutrition on her blog. The general, high-level concepts that we always start with are “eat more fresh, perishable food” and “cut out all that processed stuff”. When we start talking details, however, one of the first hard and fast recommendations we make is “cut all dairy.” That means milk, cheese, ice cream… even “natural” and “healthy” dairy like Greek yogurt and kefir. Here is a synopsis of why I tell my people (yes, you) to stop consuming dairy (yes, all of it).
