Since Melissa first announced her pregnancy in fall 2012, we’ve received a ton of questions about how to keep both mom and baby healthy and happy during pregnancy, post-delivery, and while breastfeeding. Over the last year, we’ve been compiling information based on the latest research and our own personal experience–and today we’re happy to announce a trial run of a new virtual seminar geared towards women who are newly pregnant, hoping to become pregnant, or recently gave birth.
Healthy Momma, Happy Babies
This virtual (online) seminar will be 2 hours in length, and limited to just 10 participants. We’ll cover a broad range of topics, and leave lots of time for personal attention and Q&A. Melissa will be offering specific recommendations and practical application ideas on nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management during pregnancy and after giving birth.
Topics of discussion include:
- Pregnancy nutrition, and dealing with food cravings and aversions
- Pregnancy supplementation: the three supplements you really should be taking, and why
- Exercise during pregnancy: the five exercises all pregnancy women can (and should) do
- Natural birthing options: midwives, doulas, hypnobirthing, and water births
- Natural techniques for turning a breech baby
- Group-B strep testing
- The benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy
- Sleep during pregnancy: getting comfortable, and dealing with fatigue
- Planning for baby: the three discussions you must have with your partner before the baby comes
- Breastfeeding nutrition
- Breastfeeding supplementation
- Lactation consultants: who, what, and why
- Feeding on demand vs. scheduling
- Exercise post-baby
- Leaking urine post-baby: that ain’t normal
- Losing weight post-baby: how much is safe?
- Vaccinations
- Dealing with sleep deprivation post-baby
- Friends and family visits
- Baby stuff: how much do you really need?

The first event will be held Saturday, November 2nd from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM MST. To register, visit our Eventbrite registration page. Sign-ups are limited to just 10 participants.

This is an interesting idea and I see it has already sold out! I would be interested in seeing another version maybe tailored more to experienced Moms but ones who are new to Paleo. I am pregnant with baby #3 and this will be the first Paleo(ish) baby. Some of the topics above I am already familiar with (baby stuff etc) but some are new or different from a Paleo perspective (for instance dealing with food aversions/morning sickness without relying on saltines; supplements etc).
I was really interested that you covered vaccinations in this seminar as I was just about to ask you two what your perspectives are on it, especially in light of the recent news reports regarding measles outbreaks– I’m torn and not sure which way to go. My first two children received regular vaccinations until last year when we discovered leaky gut symptoms and I halted everything, intending to wait until we saw some healing (approved by my naturopath) and changed their diets. Now I don’t know whether to continue, to select the most important few, to continue to delay or to stop altogether. And I am especially concerned about what to do when baby #3 arrives (when #2 arrived in 2011 there was a pertussis outbreak and all adults in contact with the baby were vaccinated). Perhaps this is something you could cover in a blog post? It seems every other friend of mine is posting regarding this measles thing…
I see that this event is already sold out. I am 5 weeks pregnant with my first so all of the above information would be incredibly relevant and timely. Is there any chance you will be offering additional openings or access to this information after the event? I would very much like to participate and sooner rather than later to provide my new life with as many benefits as possible as early as possible. Please tell me there is hope to participate somehow? Thank you.
Tasha, as I gain more experience as a Mom myself, I may expand the topics to include more post-baby stuff (moving out of infancy and into toddler-hood and beyond). As for vaccinations, I’m not currently planning to write an article about it, but we’ll discuss it in general during the seminar.
Sky, if this first seminar goes well, I’m planning to hold more in the near future. Keep you posted!
Best,
Melissa
I’m with Sky. This looks like an amazing event!
I would love to be a part of a seminar also as my LO is 9 months now…I just started the Whole30 and have a lot of questions regarding breastfeeding and what i eat etc. Please let me know when and if you will have another seminar! Thanks. M.
I definitely plan to host additional seminars. Going forward, I’ll be breaking them into two separate events – pregnancy and post-partum. I hope to hold my next events in November, but we’re traveling a ton, and I’m not sure my Skype connection will be solid enough from Mexico. I’ll be announcing events here and on Facebook as soon as they are finalized.
Thank you all for your interest!
Best,
Melissa
Can’t wait to hear about future seminars! Hope you’re having some fun in Mexico (:
Hey Melissa! I would love to hear if you have any upcoming events like this one planned. I know I would love to hear your take on so many of these topics! Whole9 changed my life for the best before my pregnancy and I would be so grateful to learn from you in this area as well! Thanks for providing all the info you do!
