We’re happy (and honored) to be sharing the Good Food Word right in our own community in February and March, thanks to several local businesses just as passionate about health and fitness as we are.
Local to the Salt Lake area? Be sure to check out at least one of our appearances this winter… before Baby 9 makes an appearance and we get off the road for a few months.
Liberty Heights Fresh, 1290 South 1100 East
Liberty Heights is Sugarhouse’s favorite local food store, offering “authentic full -flavored food that makes you smile, made with ingredients that your great-grandparents would recognize.” Not only do they sell the best organic produce, locally-raised meats, and specialty items, they also offer their own version of a CSA, called a “Sustainably Farmed Food” share. And as of February, all you healthy eaters will have the option of joining their new Paleo share, a weekly delivery of all the Good Food we love to eat.
Dallas, Melissa, and Erin of Whole9 will be attending their Paleo share kick-off party, on Wednesday, February 6th, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. We’ll be giving a little “Paleo 101″ talk, signing copies of It Starts With Food, and connecting with our readers (and potential readers!) on-site. Join us, and learn more about the Liberty Heights Fresh Paleo CSA option. (This event is free of charge.)
Athleta, City Creek Center
Athleta’s focus on women’s health, fitness, and balance is perfectly expressed in their tag line, “Power to the She.” Melissa will be giving a series of free interactive discussions on nutrition, health, behavior, and change at the new Athleta store in City Creek Center. This lecture series will run every Friday for four weeks, starting on February 8th, from 8:45 – 9:45 AM. The week-by-week topics she’ll be discussing are as follows:
Friday, February 8th (week 1): Our psychological relationship with food: how to stop the crave-shame-stress cycle
Friday, February 15th (week 2): Food and hormones: a calorie isn’t a calorie, and hormones are greater than willpower
Friday, February 22nd (week 3): Food and inflammation: how your diet may be affecting your health in sneaky ways
Friday, March 1 (week 4): Making the switch: why change is so hard, and how to create habits that stick
Attendance at these events is free to the public—so bring your friends! Come to all four lectures, or just attend the ones of particular interest to you. Melissa will also have copies of her New York Times bestselling book, It Starts With Food, available for sale at these events. The Athleta store is located on the lower level of City Creek Center (50 South Main Street), near the Gap and Sephora.
Ute CrossFit, 543 East 2100 South
Ute CrossFit, home of the 2012 Affiliate Cup champions, knows a thing or two about how good nutrition fuels both health and outstanding athletic performance. They’ve teamed up with Melissa and Dallas to help us share the message of how the food you put on your plate affects how you look, feel, live, and perform. You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from the seminar – our message is for everyone, and the benefits of our program are stunning.
This full-day workshop runs from 9 AM – 4 PM on Saturday, March 2nd, and is the only SLC-area seminar we’ve got planned for 2013. To learn more about what we cover during our seminar, and to register, visit http://whole9ute.eventbrite.com. See our special workshop discounts, too – and if you register early, you’ll save $15! (This is a good idea, as space is limited, and we’re already 1/3 full.)
Whole9 in SLC
We look forward to sharing our message of nutrition and health with our local community here in Salt Lake City. We hope to meet you at one (or more!) of our winter events! Got questions? Leave them in comments.

Great stuff! But when are you able to come to the UK to spread the good word!
MAN! So bummed… I have rehearsal each night these are going on. I really wanted to come. Maybe in the future.
@Lois: we can only be so many places at once! Oh, if we only had the powers of Santa…
@Mikael: lots of these events are during the day – hope you can squeeze one in.
Melissa
Do you ever have East coast events??
Ohhh please just move to Denver!
Hi Melissa! May I request for all of us who will not be able to make it to Athleta event, can you put a blog or video of that event. So that we all would be able to enrich ourselves with some cool suggestions on fitness and nutrition
I don’t see any info in the link about what will be covered in the nutritional seminar. Can you please share? Thanks!
@Vinnnie, I’m not sure how Athleta feels about videotaping my talks in their store, but I’ll definitely approach them with the idea.
@Nancy, you can visit http://whole9ute.eventbrite.com and review the seminar details right in the event registration page.
Best,
Melissa
Thanks Melissa! I will be looking forward to it. If video is not possible then do post a blog about it, if you get the time.
I had no clue you were from around the Utah area. Salt Lake is in my back yard, so I will have to see if I can make it down there for a few of the events. Back yard meaning an hour away, but in Utah, that is the back yard!
My husband and I are heading to Salt lake city next week to visit our son at the University of Utah. We are in the middle of our whole 30 and were so happy to hear you were from SLC. Can you recommend places in SLC where we will be able to get Whole 30 meals or at least restaurants that are whole 30 friendly or accommodating. We will have limited access to cooking so I am a little worried. We hope to stop by the Athleta and hear the discussion on Friday the 15th.
@Kristin, the downtown Whole Foods (on 700 east, very close to the U) is great and can help you with lunches. Melissa and Dallas really like Pago and Finca. Both restaurants are pricey but they’ll likely know what you’re talking about if you say you want something made “Whole30″. I also really like Wild Grape and Frida. All of these places are pretty accommodating if you want to modify your meals (but I think most restaurants these days have become accustomed to meeting people’s dietary needs).
Enjoy Salt Lake! I have both my BS and MS from the U of U and really love that school and campus.
