Earlier this month, we held a contest to find the next delicious Gourmet Grassfed jerky flavor. Gourmet Grassfed makes Whole30 Approved jerky, 100% grass-fed, organic and delicious. Their first Whole30-approved flavor, Original Bold, was such a hit that they were inspired to create new Whole30-approved flavors, and they asked Whole9 readers to help them.
After more than 100 suggestions, some expected (barbeque) and some a little… out there (bleu cheese?), we’ve picked a winner.
Well, actually, we’ve picked two.
We were so excited by the creative flavor combinations that we’ve chosen a winner and a runner-up! Both recipes will be created, approved by Whole9 as suitable for our Whole30 program, and produced on a national scale. In addition, the creator of the winning flavor will recieve a two-month supply of the Whole30-approved favorite, Bold Original Beef Jerky – and the runner-up will receive a week’s supply, too!
The Winner
Our winner was George, who posted on 30 November, 2011 at 12:24 pm. (Comment link: #)
George said, “Ginger garlic with coconut aminos!”, which is exactly what we were thinking. A good teriyaki jerky is hard to beat, but until the advent of coconut aminos, this flavor was impossible to make without soy. Now that the aminos have come on the scene, Gourmet Grassfed can get to work creating an interesting and flavorful teriyaki-inspired jerky that is also Whole30-approved.
Congratulations, George!
The Runner-Up
Our runner-up was Jay Ogg, who posted on 30 November, 2011 at 5:34 pm (Comment link: #)
Jay said, “For spicier palates, Chili Coffee Cacao Jerky!” We loved the idea of spicy plus cacao, and so did Andrew Sell of Gourmet Grassfed. Jay’s flavor creation will go into production early next year as well, but won’t be released as early as the teriyaki version. (Just gives us something to look forward to!)
Nice work, Jay!

I can’t wait to sample both!! Any ETA on the new flavors?

Stephanie,
Estimates from GG are late January or early February for the teriyaki version, and perhaps April for the spicy cacao. Keep you posted!
