Today, we’re proud to report that Whole9 and our Whole30 program got some amazing press from halfway around the world. The Healthy Living section of Gulf News, the most widely distributed newspaper in the United Arab Emirates, published not one but two stories featuring the Whole30, and the results experienced by Keith Fernandez, Gulf News Focus Editor.
Feature One: The Paleo Diet
This article, sensationally titled, “Feed Your Inner Beast“, is all about the ins and outs of the Paleo diet. We are quoted extensively throughout the article, detailing our take on “Paleo” and how we apply some of the principles of ancestral heritage to our nutrition plan. Of course, as with most magazine features, this way of eating is portrayed as a “trend” or a “fad”, more about achieving quick-fix weight loss than long-term, sustainable optimal health. But with the UAE ranking as one of the world’s fattest countries, a reasonable, well-designed healthy eating plan that delivers weight loss and health is certainly a step in the right direction. We’re pleased to be a part of introducing the Paleo diet to the UAE, and hope its residents will do more reading and research to learn the full array of benefits our Whole30 program has to offer.
Feature Two: A Whole30 + Evolve Testimonial
The second piece, written from the personal perspective, is titled, “I Lost 7kg in 30 Days“, and speaks to the efficacy of a well-designed exercise protocol plus the Whole30 program. Evolve, a Whole9 Nutrition Partner since April 2011, puts Gulf News editor Keith Fernandez though the paces of a 30 day exercise and nutrition program, using our Whole30 as their template. “Ninety per cent of any fitness plan is diet,” Evolve co-founder and director Dan Harrison tells Keith repeatedly during the 30-day plan. Keith credits the Whole30 and the exceptional fitness program Evolve created specifically for him with his weight loss (more than 15 lbs. in 30 days!), better sleep, and improvement in his sinus conditions.

What?! Melissa is 37? She looks 10 years younger : )
Amanda, that is super nice of you to say. I have no idea why they needed to print my age in that article, but I’m not age-fussy. Except when I turn 40. Then I will start counting backwards.
Melissa
I’m either 7 years shy of 40 or 7 years beyond (and counting down), but I won’t say which. ;)
Dallas
Dallas – we all know you’re 7 years shy and Melissa, the knee-high tube socks aged you at 23 or 24 year tops! (And I mean that in a nice way.)
Melissa,
Wow, I seriously thought it was a typo! I guess that’s just another benefit of clean living, Actually, I’m a 31 yr old high school teacher and have been mistaken for a student on many occasions, pretty fun!
Melissa, 40 is not bad at all. Trust me, you will have totally forgotten about it by the time 41 rolls around and slaps you in the face :)
Thanks again for turning me onto Palaeo, Melissa! I still need to figure out how to adapt Indian food to Whole9 principles, though.
Re ages, we find details like this help readers identify with interviewees — and often also provoke reactions like Amanda’s, above.
Keith,
We loved being a part of your interview and your experience. Thanks for sharing more about our Whole30 program with your part of the world! (And I’m just giving you grief about printing my age. If I was uncomfortable with it, I would have told you I was 22.) ;)
