I am in. Was pretty clean with my eating after my brother and his wife showed me your original blog last half of 09 and absolutely loved it. We had our whole family on board and all kinds of people constantly asking about paleo and clean eating daily. Found out I was pregnant and my body went crazy with food aversions and sickness. I am 5 months along now and feel somewhat back, so I need to jump back on full fledge- the more I wandered it seemed the more everyone in my house did too! Ready to have this baby get a taste of the clean life!

I wrote to ask about consulting a few weeks ago and I understand the limitations with that while you are on the road...but this seems like a good way to get some of the support/tough love in the interim. I have actually been following your blog since Feb 2008, which was when I started Crossfit. I have seriously (read: completely) slacked off over the last several months and am in dire need of a fresh start. So I'm in. Thanks for adding some motivation.

@Roelant: I'm going to answer anyway. :) Different thoughts on a PWO meal for different goals. If you're maximizing recovery, getting that PWO meal in is going to be critical. If your ONLY goal is to restore insulin sensitivity, then you may want to reduce the number of carbs in your PWO meal - but that doesn't mean you should skip it altogether! Robb's recommendation to include half your daily carbs in that PWO meal might not work for everyone, especially those who are sensitive to the "carb crash" effect.

@Lauren: ROCK ON, sister! So excited to see what you + Vanessa + Ramstein comes up with this time around - keep us posted as to how things are going, and drop in here from time to time to share your experience and wisdom (having been around the block with this one before).

Great idea on doing Whole30 on the road! Speaking as an experienced 'strict while travelling' eater it's definitely not an easy task. After hearing about your decision to do a Whole30 Part II, since we did a 45 day challenge back in January/February (thanks again for the great article!) Vanessa and I were able to convince our head trainer here at Crossfit Ramstein to do a 30 day strict eating challenge Summer Edition. We're tweaking a few things based off of how things went last time and starting ours on June 1st. So we may not be starting with you on May 16th, but we'll be right behind you!

Hi Melissa,

how long are we talking here? I remember Matt L saying something like not eating post workout to improve insulin sensitivy...granted I guess it's goal oriented, I'm not crossfitting at the moment, I dialed my activity back a lot because I was burning out. Just sleeping, lifting and "whole 30-ing".

@Wade, IF is sort of an "advanced topic". We might tackle it on a future post, because we get the question a lot (and feel the concept is both over-played and over-used). In general, though, you ARE shooting yourself in the foot by not eating for hours after your workout, IF your primary concern is recovery. Get that post workout meal in!

Awesome, everyone! So glad we'll be meeting some of you along our road trip route as well!

We'll post the full Whole30 program (updated for 2010) on Sunday morning. We'll include what's "in" and what's "out", and list our participation guidelines.

@Diana: Visit www.againfaster.com (the equipment store). Any Oly product they carry will do the trick, and Jon, Sam and crew will take great care of you. Tell them Whole9 sent you!

I personally use the York women's training bar for my Oly stuff, but find the diameter too thin for deadlifting. We also have the Wright Rubber plate set, and have found they hold up well (even the smaller plates).

Best,

Melissa
